A little about Guatemalan Society

Hello all,

- This post is supposed to be a realistic one. Actually its not very happy, but its my point of view. Remember that I'm talking in general, there are always exceptions.
- The soceity seems to be very sexist. Men seem to rule most businnes and familys. In couple relationship, men usually have to give the first step. Women seem only to create opportunities for men to give first steps.
- The religion here is mostly catholic. There are also protestant churches, but catholic are the majority. People go to churches on sundays and so on.
- The people here doesn't seem to worry about time. When not talking about work, getting late is more than common: its expected. If someone gets on time, he's almost wrong. That is a shame that, I get really pissed off sometimes.
- The youth usually lives with the parents until they get married. It's very common people with 30 years still living with the parents.
- Bars and nightclubs closes at 1 a.m., so many parents demand that their sons and daughters return home by 12h30 or 1 in the morning.
- The people from here also have a problem in speaking directly. In Brasil there is also a little of it, but here it seems worse. More than one time people tell you 'YES' when they really know that they will not be able to do as it says. Wouldn't be better to say 'No, sorry' ? I guess so.
- The country has a lot of influence from the US. Many people go there to study, or for vacations. But either way, on the world cup almost everyone I know will cheer for Brasil. Strange huh?
- Outside AIESEC, people has a very disturbed notion of Brasil. That is because my country is very bad on passing on a good image of the country, a shame.

Well, to end the report, I'll say that the people from AIESEC here are very nice. I made good friends here, and I sincerelly hope the best for them.

Thats it...

Brasil, miss you...

My birthday, April 28th

Hello all!!

Well, I'm about to tell a little about my birthday, on April 28th.
It was a friday, and here in the company is a day which you can come a little more casual, with a polo t-shirt and so on.
The company has a policy of putting on a wall a list with all the people who has birthday each month, and unforunately my name wasn't there. So what happened? On my bday, I told some of the people that work with me that was my bday, and then two colleagues put some balloons and stuff here in my office, and gave me a little gift. That was nice. My office was very colorful with baloons and so on, and people gave me congratulations.
On the same day, I had an AIESEC conference starting, so I left the company at 12h.

Well, I went home, ate a little and Colocho picked me up so we could go to the hotel, that is in Antigua(a historical city 40min from here).

The first day was very nice, lots of things to do, and in the end of the day, about 40 people sang me a Mexican happy birthday, which I don't remember a word, hehehe. I was happy after all.

I have many photos from these days, but there is one here where we were already very very drunk, with Tito, a good friend. It's funny, hehehe...

On this one there are lots of people from El Salvador, with the blue polo. From left to right: Colocho, Coca, Chepe, Hanna, Me, Ah Ram, Mario, Christian, Taty, Cristian and Renée

Well that's it folks, hope you enjoyed it...

See you all...

Brasil, miss u!!
